Font Crush: Mister K Is The Grace Kelly Of Calligraphy
July 15, 2014
As a rule, I avoid the typographic category called “hand drawn and calligraphic”. However, when I cast my eyes on this beauty, all bets were off. It was lust at first sight. Mister K is based on Franz Kafka’s own handwriting. His manuscripts had a unique handwriting style with strong calligraphic features.
The folks at the International Society of Typographic Designers awarded it the ISTD Premier Award. Mister K Informal also received a Certificate of Excellence in Typeface Design from the Type Directors Club in 2012.
But enough with all the awards. I love the font for its causal and composed forms. It feels like Lisa Fremont (Grace Kelly’s character in Rear Window) has just polished off a note inviting you to lunch next week on her creamy stationary. If I got this in the mail, it would go to the top of my inbox.
